Sara and Julie were a blast to hang out with at Kikaua Point. They were recently engaged and came to the Big Island to plan their 2014 wedding in paradise! Both of these ladies are young professionals in the medical field and are very deserving of some rest & relaxation on the beach. We had fun and enjoyed a spectacular sunset!

PJ is from California and returning this week from a trip to his Hawaii to start his senior year in high school. Next year he will attend college and major in the sciences. He was drawn to the telescopes on the summit of Mauna Kea, so that is where we ventured for his senior photo session! When at the safety stop to adjust avoiding altitude sickness we went for a short hike. PJ was the first to notice a geocache hidden in the rocks on a remote cliff. One of my favorite photos is of him reading through the notes left by visitors from around the globe..... I snapped the picture candidly and when going through the footage thought I was looking at Harry Potter. My other favorite picture is capturing his reaction when the telescopes opened and started to move. It really sounded like theatrical effects from a Star Wars movie. He forgot about posing for the picture, gazed up and said "excuse me I need to geek out for a moment!"
Kevin Teves and I taught a Hula lesson for a girls day out before Donna's wedding the following weekend. The 15 ladies were all visiting from Canada and staying in a lovely home on the Kona Coast. We began the lesson by making leis form the flowers of PuaLani Orchids. The ladies surprised us by already being prepared with grass skirts! All of the women were quick to pick up the hula steps and we learned the entire hula to Keep Your Eyes On The Hands.
This wedding party from Denver loves to have fun and can not party without our very own Kona Brew!!!! Congratulations Cher & Matthew! You and your entire crew were fun to photograph.
Bump City Hawaii will be the main-stage act at the 4th of July concert at the Waikoloa Bowl tomorrow starting at 6:30PM. Bump City will play a full concert and will be the musical accompaniment to the fireworks display at 8:00PM. Come to the Queens Shops earlier in the day to see even more of Duncan Bamsey. He has been hired for 3 gigs that day! Salsa Latinos at 12:30 QS, Generous Thieves at 5:00 QS and of course Bump City at 6:30 the amphitheater. I will be dancing hula at the same time...similar location at Lava Lava Beach Club from 6-8.... I'll be able to hear Bump City across the lava field :) Although Bump City will be performing live with the fireworks, they also had to record the 12minute funk/patriotic arrangement as a track that 7 different radio stations will be playing for those watching the firework display throughout West Hawaii. These are photos I took of the recording session with Michael Suprenant (Bump City drummer) and Duncan in Michael's recording studio in their family barn.
Waited many months for this post.... A bride from the mainland came to exchange vows with her partner in front of dozens of family and friends who flew to the islands to witness. Behind closed doors I asked.... "Many big events for you this year....when are you due?" She was a little shocked.... being very trim, not showing at all, she asked, "How do you know, no one but by husband knows?" The open lei, a gift from her husband, was the give away. This coupled had researched Hawaiian traditions regarding pregnancy. The bride and groom were aware if they were to preform the wedding lei ceremony it is appropriate for their situation that Andrea was to wear an open lei rather than closed lei. She was happy to find how I knew and that I was the only one at the ceremony that had figured it out. The couple asked if we could do a traditional maternity photo (out of view of her guests) so she could use the photo to share the news when the time was right. Many months have past since their wedding date. The newlyweds have shared this photo and the family now have a new addition! So this is an older photo but perfect time to share. Congratulations to the growing family!
