Brian, a wedding coordinator here on the Big Island, hires me for many of his couples..... But this call was different. He was calling to ask me to photograph his own wedding!!! This couple has been together for 20 years. As of January 1, 2012 the state of Hawaii recognizes civil unions. I was honored to be asked to photograph Brian & David's ceremony. One of the fun elements was all the surprises. David did not realize all his friends would be in attendance. An even bigger surprise was David's sister did not realize her brother was getting married until she was tricked and already walking them down the isle! The reception at their home was a blast. Both grooms have worked in the catering business for years.... they are great cooks and prepared everything themselves. Mahalo to Dennis Garcia for sharing his music both at the ceremony and for this slide show.
Found this groom in a remote area on the grounds reviewing and revising his vows... Drew is a cinimatographer and pretty increadible with a camera. His bride is a stylist, as you may have guessed from his great attire. He looks so dapper!
On our way to the 2013 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. Tune into channel 5 tomorrow evening and cheer for Kahulanui.
Karlie and Nando met in Italy while both serving in the military. Karlie is from the Big Island and came home to marry her sweetheart surrounded by her friends and family. The newly married couple return to Italy after a short stay here in Hawaii. Hearing Nando speak about Italy took me back many years ago to when I was working as a civilian on a military base in Italy. Strolling the streets of Naples I came across a photography studio that shot wedding portraits throughout the old streets of the city. It was then that I though...."It would be amazing to photograph weddings in beautiful locations!". It was years after that day that I began to work professionally as a photographer but that moment in Italy is still so clear in my mind. Now I am blessed to photograph weddings in beautiful locations every week! We also have the opportunity to photograph beautiful people. Those people who give their service and life's work to others are beautiful inside and out. It is an honor to photograph our service men and women. This brides name is Kaitlyn, although spelled differently, the name and the stunning facial features reminded me of Princess Kate. Just moments before we captured this portrait her name was McBride. I knew what our blog post was going to be as soon as I saw her....
I've worked with children for decades as a teacher.... but to this point I've focused EMotionGalleries on weddings and dancers/musicians. When Bula and Ashley became expectant parents it was somewhat of a natural progression to photograph formal maternity and baby session. These young parents are accustom to having my lens near by. I often work for Ashley, a wedding coordinator and as musician Duncan and Bula gig together weekly. Guaranteed, little Anai will be no stranger to the camera throughout his life..... that cute little face is star-bound! Click here to see more from this gallery.
