Thursday nights Duncan Bamsey typically plays at Honu's Restaurant but tonight will have to call in a sub.  He will be playing a private gig.  Not to worry regular followers he will return to Honu's next week.  Here is a picture of Duncan and his wife Ranae on their way out the door this evening.  Duncan will be playing in Keauhou and Ranae will be dancing her regular Thursday night gig at Lava Lava Beach Club in Waikoloa.  These two perform 4 nights a week separately…..someone book them together at the same time at the same place please!!!! :)

Halloween 2013

Halloween morning started out with a huge spider web that covered the entire classroom.  We then estimated the weight of the Great Pumpkin.  In math class we carved the pumpkin and counted all the seeds in its guts.  The children also painted little pumpkins.  There were great costumes today at school, vampires, princesses, goblins, hillbillies etc. etc. etc.  I went as a flamenco dancer....then came home changed into my hula costume to go to work at Lava Lava.  The staff at Lava Lava had incredible costumes too.... most to gory to show pictures.  My hula costume tonight looked more like a pumpkin than a dancer :)  One of my recent wedding couples were in the crowd!  My favorite costumes by far though where those I received in texts messages from my brother and sister of my niece and nephews.  Elizabeth's kids were dressed as Peter Pan and Wendy.  Matthew's sons were a Ranger, Thomas Train and a horse.  I love those kids!!

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of photographing Nicole Swift and Dominick Montalbano's wedding.  Nicole has had an incredible past few days; married only days ago in-between training sessions and then today is not only her birthday but she is racing in the Iron Man Triathlon!  GO NICOLE GO!!!!!!  After the wedding I helped her carry some flowers up to her room and saw the bike..... we just could not pass up the photo on her bike in her wedding dress!  I had to unpack my gear for one more shot. Here bike was pink like the color of her bouquet and had Iron Girl decals all over the speed machine.  Although Swift is a cool last name for an Iron Woman as a gift to her husband Dominick, she asked that at the finish line she is announced as Mrs. Montalbano.

More photos from this wedding to come.

The Generous Provenzano's - Iron Man Volunteers

Dea took this picture of Mark and I with their phone after my hula set at Lava Lava Beach Club.  Dea and Mark Provenzano are two of the amazing volunteers that come to the Big Island every year to help support and make the Iron Man Triathlon possible.  For the last 21 years this couple have used their vacation days to travel to Hawaii and volunteer their time and energy to the race.

The Provenzano's are athletes themselves... and have to be for the job they are placed at every year.  These two keep the Iron Men/Women hydrated, during the biking portion of the triatholon. In order to do this they must sprint as fast as the riders are pedaling, pass off the bottle (without touching the racers or they will be disqualified) and then.... jog back to the station and repeat several hundred times!!!!  What troopers, and they come back for more year after year.

Mark & Dea have had a profound impact on so many people.  I was fortunate enough to meet them last year at Lava Lava and they stopped by again this year to say hello - How sweet!!!!!

These are some photos taken at my parents 40th anniversary celebration earlier this year. Dad wrote the lyrics and Duncan wrote the music and recorded the song.  You might wonder about some of the words....the grandkids call mom and dad Obi and Omi. Yep my parents live out in the back woods of the Ozarks.  My brother, sister, aunts, nephews and niece were all there as well as neighbors and family friends. It was a magical way to celebrate 40 years of love.

PJ's Senior Photos at Mauna Kea Summit

PJ is from California and returning this  week from a trip to his Hawaii to start his senior year in high school. Next year he will attend college and major in the sciences. He was drawn to the telescopes on the summit of Mauna Kea, so that is where we ventured for his senior photo session! When at the safety stop to adjust avoiding altitude sickness we went for a short hike. PJ was the first to notice a geocache hidden in the rocks on a remote cliff. One of my favorite photos is of him reading through the notes left by visitors from around the globe..... I snapped the picture candidly and when going through the footage thought I was looking at Harry Potter. My other favorite picture is capturing his reaction when the telescopes opened and started to move. It really sounded like theatrical effects from a Star Wars movie. He forgot about posing for the picture, gazed up and said "excuse me I need to geek out for a moment!"

Anai Akamu Maternity and Baby Sessions

I've worked with children for decades as a teacher.... but to this point I've focused EMotionGalleries on weddings and dancers/musicians. When Bula and Ashley became expectant parents it was somewhat of a natural progression to photograph formal maternity and baby session. These young parents are accustom to having my lens near by.  I often work for Ashley, a wedding coordinator and as musician Duncan and Bula gig together weekly.  Guaranteed, little Anai will be no stranger to the camera throughout his life..... that cute little face is star-bound!  Click here to see more from this gallery.

Last Nights Sunset

I love my home in Kona.  Last night I photographed a short wedding ceremony. The wedding party went off to celebrate at the luau.  As we were packing our gear we saw a few friends and joined them for a dragon fruit mojito during sunset.  Just before dark the Polynesian canoe came sailing by, compelling me to unpack our gear again.  The sunset, surf, and opi covered lava frame the vessel in a way that shares the beauty of Kailua-Kona.
