Why it is ideal to choose the same person to photograph and design your album:
As a musician you would never master your recording before writing the lyrics of the third verse of your title track. However, this is the way most approach the idea of their album cover- they choose a photo and base the album design around picture.... That's backwards. Ranae believes the photographs, cover and album design should be based on the ideas in which the music was created. If the photographer knows the design as well as conceptual and artistic qualities of the music the photographer can shoot with purpose specific to the musicians album and represent their music the best way possible.
Album Photo Session/Design Timeline- create, write and record your music
- consider how you want to package your album in a jewel case, jacket, digipack and if you want any additions such as an booklet or inserts. - which cd printer and distributer you will use ex: CDBABY - submit album information on the left of this page - make a minimum 30% payment for the non refundable retainer on your invoice to reserve your photo session date and time. - attend the photo session - pay any balance left on the invoice - 2 weeks later you will have your first design proof, at that time you can approve or submit your revision - once you approve your file will be released to you so you can submit the file to the printer Agreement
Communication
All communication is done through email chain. Musician and/or their representation will use the email chain for ALL information regarding the project and will not contact photographer/designer via, phone, text, social media, etc. Communication must be clear, concise and organized all in one place. Photographer/designer is not responsible for mistakes including but not limited to grammar, spelling Payment Projects will not be initiated until this form is filled out in entierty and non refundable retainer is paid. It is in the musicians best interest to be organized, and understand the designers time so additional charges are not incurred. Additional charges will be incurred, if musician schedules and then reschedules, request more revisions that what is included in the package, changes the design template, delays the span of time is beyond that which is agreed upon to complete the package, etc. From the photo shoot to the last revision, the project cannot span more than 8 weeks. The project must be finalized within two months. We will not store files, keep the project or continue without extension payments of 250/month; payed in advance of the requested extension. If the musician does not maintain the extension payments the musician will need to start and pay for a new project; and if they wish to receive the images they will need to pay the remaining difference of a regular photo session and commercial usage of files. Proofs & Revisions Photographer/designer will cull and be choosing the final images based on album design. Design proofs will be provided to the musician digitally via a link. The musician is to submit a bulleted list of revisions via email. Each time a revision is submitted via email no matter how long or short the list- it counts as a revision. Each package include X number of revisions. If you wish to make a revision beyond that number there is a fee for additional revisions and that non refundable fee must be paid in advance of the extra submi-sion. Once revisions are submitted, designer has 2 weeks to provide the next proof. If you need proof sooner, only if designer is available will you have the option to a rush proof for an addition fee which must be paid in advance. If you revise or change the album template after the photo session charged a $500 change fee because it is similar to beginning a whole new design.
